About the artwork

This interactive community mural is meant for participants of all ages – whether one wants to explore the games like hopscotch or custom-crafted “animal puzzle”, or simply enjoy the artwork. The 4 areas of the mural feature some of the finest members of Toronto’s (and Canada’s) flora and fauna and serve as an invitation to pay attention to, care for and protect our With the aim to foster a peaceful and engaging atmosphere in one of the densest pockets of the city, the mural invites neighbours and passersby alike to pause, explore and play.

About the artist

Daria Domnikova is a Toronto-based muralist, illustrator, and graphic designer. After graduating from OCAD University she has collaborated with various Canadian and international editorial publications, local and international businesses and organizations, and non-profits. Daria’s work is deeply informed by the world around her: nature, the buzz of the city, community, movement, and the ways in which we all With the aim to visually represent diverse communities and the joy of living, Daria creates vibrant, compelling, playful and sophisticated visual narratives. Aa a people-oriented creative Daria believes in the crucial role (public) art plays in shaping our sense of belonging and places human connection at the heart of her practice. Fun facts

  • There were roughly as many community members that participated due to seeing the event promoted on social media as there were participants that simply "walked-in" and participated amidst their daily routines when they saw the mural being painted - confirming that public art does spark curiosity and foster community engagement
